Interior Door Sizes & Technical Guide
Getting the size right is the most important step in ordering interior doors. Because every Slab & Trim door is made to order, you are not limited to whatever a big-box store stocks — but you do need accurate measurements. This guide covers the standard dimensions, how doors are specified, and how to measure your openings.
Standard door heights
Most homes use 80\" doors, but taller doors have become a signature of modern design. We build to the following heights:

Note: our pricing is set by door height — taller doors use more material and cost more. Width does not change the price within a height tier.
Standard door widths
Widths are chosen based on the room and the clearance you need. Common single-door widths:

| 30" | Bedrooms, offices, and general rooms (very common) |

Door thickness
Standard interior doors are 1⅜\" (35 mm) thick. This thickness suits standard hinges, handles, and latches and balances weight, rigidity, and sound control. Thicker slabs are available on request for specialty applications.
Slab vs. prehung
A slab is just the door panel — ideal when you are reusing an existing frame or want a finished-carpenter install. A prehung door comes already mounted in its frame with hinges attached, which speeds up installation in new openings.

How to measure your opening
- Width: measure the width of the door slab itself (or the rough opening for a prehung) at the top, middle, and bottom; use the smallest measurement.
- Height: measure from the finished floor to the top of the opening.
- Thickness: measure the existing door edge, or the jamb depth for a prehung.
- Swing / handing: stand facing the door as it opens toward you — if the hinges are on the left it is left-handed, on the right it is right-handed.
- Rough opening (prehung): as a rule of thumb, frame the rough opening about 2\" wider and 2–2½\" taller than the door slab to allow for the jamb and shimming.
